VERO BEACH, FLA. — Neil Bernard Breen died Wednesday, August 29, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center, Vero Beach, Fla., after a heroic fight with cancer and heart disease. He was born May 13, 1938, in Churubusco, N.Y., to Mark Bernard Breen and Mildred (Lapoint) Breen.
Neil graduated from Dannemora High School in 1957 and will be remembered as an all-star basketball player. He enlisted in the US Army in 1958 with his best friend, Rodney Burnell. He was a 1969 graduate of Plattsburgh State and taught school in Schenectady, before going to work for the Department of Correctional Services at Clinton Correctional Facility. Neil later worked at Fishkill Correctional Facility before returning to Clinton as Deputy Superintendent for Special Programs. He retired on August 9, 1996, from Lyon Mountain Correctional Facility as Superintendent. He was a Life Member of the Plattsburgh Lodge of Elks #621.
Neil is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Linda (Cote) Breen; his daughter, Kimberli Breen and her husband Antonio Pasqual and grandson Orion Patric of Chicago, Ill.; his stepdaughters, Kathleen and her husband Jason Whitman and grandchildren Autumn, Lindsay and Gavin of Sebastian, Fla.; Amy Murray of Chicopee, Mass.; two stepdaughters from a previous marriage, Heidi Fordham and Erin Garrison. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert and his wife Jeanne of Saranac Lake, Richard and his wife Rita of Cadyville, and Nancy Dupras and her husband William of Palm Bay, Fla.; his aunts, Janet Gagnier and her husband Garth of Malone, and Pauline Musenbrock of Great Bend, Kansas; and 12 nieces and nephews.
Neil was predeceased by his parents; his brother, James Breen; his brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Sherry Breen; and a stepdaughter, Tammie A. Garafalo.

In recent years, some of his happiest times came from being a long-standing member of the Ocean Front Medical Center Group, who met every morning at the boardwalk, to solve the worlds problems. He loved and was loved by so many. Neil is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Linda Breen; his daughter, Kimberli Breen; two step-daughters, Kathleen Whitman and Amy Murray; four grandchildren, Autumn, Lindsay, Orion, and Gavin; also two brothers and one sister.
